Apple makes its own screens. What do you know about the level of screens on phones?

As early as 2018, there were reports that Apple had successfully designed and produced a small number of screens for testing and was ready to use as early as 2020. But in 2023, Apple still isn't waiting for its own screen. But according to the latest Revelations, it may be possible to use the homemade screens in small quantities for small smart devices like the Apple Watch between 2024 and 2025. That said, there is no confirmation that the iPhone will get a homemade screen, and I think it will be hard for Apple to give up Samsung's top-of-the-line screen.

Samsung screen rating, how much do you know?

As we all know, the best OLED screen in the mobile phone industry is from Samsung. But Samsung's own screens come in different grades, selling different AMOLED screens to different buyers. To be specific, Samsung AMOLED screens are currently divided into three main grades:

The M-series screens, which are the highest grade of Samsung, are not sold to the public. It is only available for Samsung's flagship phones, such as Samsung Galaxy Note20 series and Samsung Galaxy S20 series. But Apple, as well as SONY, can also use M Series screens, such as Apple's iPhone 14 Pro. Why do Apple and SONY have the privilege? The former is due to the high cost and the huge number of iphones shipped each year, which Samsung approves. The latter is because SONY traded sensor and image patents with Samsung.

The second type is the LTPO AMOLED screen, which is an OLED screen that Apple or other mobile phone manufacturers have made exclusively for Samsung. For example, the iPhone 14 standard edition, of course, this is also to spend a lot of money, after all, is exclusive customization, and order quantity to meet the conditions.

The third is the lowest, the E-series screen. This screen is also commonly used by domestic manufacturers, such as the common E4 series, E5 series, E6 series, are domestic mobile phones can use the top AMOLED screen, but although it is the lowest, but the overall display quality is still online, only the material, part of the visual details, experience, not as high as the LT series, M series positioning!

What are the differences between Samsung E4, E5 and E6?

E series, is the main screen model of Samsung external sales, he is also divided into E4, E5, E6 according to the luminous substrate, generally speaking, the larger the number represents the new material, according to the principle of display quality will have a certain degree of improvement. However, this improvement is not absolute. In the case of E4 and E6, first of all, the E4 material screen has a maximum brightness of 800 Nits globally and 1,300 Nits regionally. The E6 screen material has a global brightness of up to 1200 Nits and a local excitation of up to 1800 Nits. Note, however, that the higher peak brightness of the E6 material, unless you're using your phone outdoors in a high-light environment all year long, is not a boost you'll need on a daily basis. Perhaps more simply, 300-500 nits of brightness is sufficient for normal use of the phone, which can be satisfied with both E4 and E6 material screens. The practical significance of higher peak brightness is very limited.

Then we look at the others. The E4 material screen has 100%NTSC gamut coverage and the E6 material screen has 104%NTSC gamut coverage, which is very close. The color depth is 10bit, and the permeability and color accuracy are consistent.

However, the E6 material screen can be optional with a micro-prism to continue to increase the brightness, but the micro-prism structure also has a certain cost, because its vertical brightness from the original to other aspects of the optical path enhancement, so the entire panel under other visual brightness will be discounted, the actual visual Angle is worse than E4 material screen, at the same time, the clarity will be correspondingly decreased.

So overall, we can find that the advantage of the E6 material screen is lower power consumption (about 20% lower), as for everyday look and feel is almost no difference.

But, but, but! These are all from the paper parameters, the updated material, in addition to more advantages in power consumption, but also added high frequency dimming and other new functions. In addition, the Samsung E6 material is easier to adjust on the screen. In other words, the Samsung E6 material screen does not require additional color correction, while the Samsung E4 material requires more resources. However, if the manufacturer's experience is mature, the Samsung E4 material screen will look and feel as good as the untuned Samsung E6 material.
